Left Hand Techniques

Learning to hold the bar properly can help to improve your tone. You hold the bar between the thumb and middle finger. Practice holding the bar without the strings to support it. The index finger controls the pressure of the bar into the strings.

Here's my left hand with bar on strings.
Hold it between the thumb and middle finger. The first finger should not be needed to hold it.
I've turned my hand here so you can see what is holding the bar.

These shots were captured off of videos. The key is knowing that good bar control starts in the shoulder. It takes the shoulder, upper arm, forearm, wrist, hand, and fingers all working together. Learn to think physical. If any part of the bar chain breaks down then even lifting the bar can be a daunting task...joe
